Who We Are

A Strong Voice for Colorado's Workers

The Colorado AFL-CIO’s primary focus is building power for working people and fighting for a fair and just economy for all. Our members build and maintain vital infrastructure, provide healthcare, and work the essential jobs that keep Colorado moving. With over 130,000 union members across 180 affiliate unions, we accomplish this in every facet of our Federation’s work. This work is devoted to organizing new workers, supporting locals in negotiations, electing leaders and advocating for legislation that benefits working people, and engaging with many communities in Colorado, both in and outside the labor movement.

Worker Assistance & Workforce

The Colorado AFL-CIO support local union and non-union workers in education. Colorado’s workforce is most effective when strong advocates for working people are involved, and our state is stronger when we create family-sustaining jobs. By supporting workers from all backgrounds, we ensure that Colorado is moving in the right direction.

Political & Electoral Field

The Colorado AFL-CIO maintains a statewide scope of field where volunteers are mobilized from the plains to the Rocky Mountains. By integrating effective technology for text and phone banking, utilizing in-house design and communications capacity, and deploying our professionally managed canvassing program into our targeted district-level strategy, we have developed a highly effective program. Through this work, we ensure pro-labor candidates win on the ballot and continue to advocate for working people in their legislation.

Government Affairs & Public Policy

The Colorado AFL-CIO’s advocacy in Denver acts as a strong voice for all working people in Colorado, and absolutely a strong voice for our affiliated unions and members. We collaborate with allied community-based organizations and labor/community coalitions to develop and pass legislation designed to give all Coloradans a pathway to prosperity. Our legislative work looks like directing testimony, letters and calls to legislators, and local actions in support for legislative priorities.

Research

The Colorado AFL-CIO provides strategic research for organizing campaigns, organizing targets, bargaining, political campaigns and economic development. Our in-house capacity for research enables us to quickly produce reports and analyze the data that has an impact on working people in Oregon.

Communications

From press relations to graphic design services, the Colorado AFL-CIO Communications hub supports all our program areas, while providing strategic communications assistance to affiliate unions, campaigns, and allied organizations. We can help your organization develop a strategy for communicating with your members and with the general public, as well as offer graphic design, digital/social media campaigns, and targeted press outreach to ensure that your message is hitting the correct audience.
