I am excited to report this week that the Local Union Political Coordinator Training held last Friday and Saturday in Denver was a resounding success!

Nearly 200 union members from dozens of local unions gathered at the IBEW Local 68 hall in Denver for a two-day political training for local union leaders, local union coordinators, potential release staff and union activists for the Colorado Labor 2008 campaign.

It looks like John McCain will soon become the Republican nominee.

In the coming months we will be working with all of you to be the first out of the gate, bringing real “Straight Talk” about his record on the economy to union voters.

Every week I will use some part of our newsletter to bring you the most up-to-date information about McCain and his consistent record opposing all the issues union members care about.

Below is our February 6th Edition of the Colorado Labor 2008 newsletter that will continue to be going out to you on a weekly basis.

I’d like to start with a sad announcement, former CO AFL-CIO President Herrick Roth passed away. President Roth was a great labor leader and will be greatly missed. His funeral will take place on Wednesday, February 13 at 10AM at Wellshire Presbyterian Church, 2999 S. Colorado Blvd, Denver, CO.

Last week, more than 75 union activists participated in our Labor 2008 media and message training representing unions including AFSCME, AFT, Alliance for Retired Americans, Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA), Carpenters (UBC), Communications Workers of America (CWA), Electrical Workers (IBEW), Fire Fighters (IAFF), OPEIU, Plumbers and Pipe Fitters (UA), Screen Actors (SAG), Sheet Metal Workers (SMWIA), Teamsters (IBT), UAW, UNITE HERE, United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), United Steelworkers (USW), and more.
